Frumkes is best known as the writer-producer of the cult horror classic Street Trash; the director of The Definitive Document of the Dead, which follows the career of George A. Romero; and the creator of The Substitute franchise starring Tom Berenger and Treat Williams.  He has taught screenwriting, film production and the history of the horror genre during his distinguished career as an instructor at New York’s School of Visual Arts, and he is the owner of Films in Review, the online version of the nation’s first film publication.  He appeared in the Buffalo based films Slime City Massacre and Killer Rack, directed by festival co-chair Gregory Lamberson.

“We’re to thrilled to bring Roy back to Buffalo as the judge of our original feature length screenplay competition,” says Lamberson.  “Street Trash is beloved by horror fans, but it’s actually a black comedy, The Substitute is an action franchise.  In his role as an educator, Roy has been an opponent of artistic discrimination against genre material, and we welcome screenplay submissions of all genres.  We’ll narrow down the selections to five finalists, and Roy will evaluate those.”

Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival will present a plaque for the First Place winner in the screenplay competition, and certificates for Second Place and Third Place. Submissions for original screenplays, music videos, web series, micro-shorts, shorts, short features and feature films can be made via FilmFreeway and Without A Box.  The Early Bird deadline runs until March 1st.
